Before embarking on a programme of SRI communications, all companies should establish their current status with SRI investors and identify which investors are likely to be most interested in their sustainability performance. A basic review should seek to establish:
- The level of SRI interest of the company’s top 20 investors
- Which of the leading segregated SRI funds do and don’t hold the company’s shares
- An updated contacts register of individual analysts* who cover the company to include:
- Buy-side analysts and portfolio managers
- Sell-side analysts
- Ratings agency analysts
- Whether the company is included in the relevant SRI/sustainability indices
- The company’s ratings from different SRI agencies
SRI-CONNECT profiles can help companies with most aspects of this baseline review.
(NB as investment institutions divide research responsibilities between analysts, companies need to know the contact details of the individual responsible for coverage of their company and not just the name of their institution.)
