‘Sustainable investor relations’ is typically a shared responsibility between sustainability / corporate responsibility and investor relations departments.  In the best cases, this gives rise to creative collaboration between the two departments; in the worst cases, it means that the job falls between the cracks or, perhaps worse still, that one department takes responsibility for the area without consulting the other; in some rare cases, specific individuals are given defined responsibility for relations with sustainability investors.

To ensure efficient and compliant practice in future, companies should designate two named individuals as responsible for communications with SRI investors.  One of these should come from the investor relations department and one from the CSR department.  The names and contact details of these two individuals should be published on the company’s website (and on SRI-CONNECT).

It should be made clear that all investor enquiries should be routed via both of these individuals and via these individuals only.
