Take control of SRI/ESG investor communications
A ten-step guide to effective (mainstream-IR-aligned) investor communications on sustainability.
Following this should enable companies to halve the amount of time they spend on SRI/ESG communications and double their reach and effectiveness.
To maximise their efficiency, companies should see their communications with SRI investors as a continuous relationship rather than as a series of ad hoc events. Their strategy should be based on:
- Identifying a general level of SRI interest in the company
- Identifying specific interest
- Setting clear objectives
- Appointing points of contact for SRI investors
- Maintaining permanent profiles
This will help companies to maximise the potential of all channels of communication to SRI investors including:
- the publication and distribution of sustainability / CSR reports
- the completion of structured questionnaires
- the answering of ad hoc questions and requests
- responding to resolutions put by investors to company AGMs
- face-to-face meetings with investors – often as part of SRI roadshows
We discuss each of these in turn and also, give a few tips on how to shape presentations to meet investor demand and on how to establish an appropriate timetable for communications.
